Alizarin Red S ~ Used to tell the difference from Calcite and Dolomite.

How to Use:

1. Cover drill cutting in distilled water, enough to saturate sample

2. Add two drops of Alizarin Red S

3. Add a drop of 10% HCL

4. Now wait........ (2- 3 min)

5. Calcite will turn a red-ish pink. Dolomite will take much longer to turn color or may not change at all.
